Engagement Marketing

We talked about Engagement Marketing in class which is turning out to be the "in" thing right now in marketing.  If you know something about it then I hope you'll share it with me (i.e. by putting a comment below).  When I understand it a little better, I will post another blog :-)

Thank You!

The organizing team would like to thank the following.  Without them the forum wouldn't have been that fun, exciting, and educational:

Audience
Professors
Speakers
Sponsors
Suppliers
Those who helped but we do not know
and the
Invisible hands who helped but does not want to be recognized

We would like to say a lot more but it all boils down to
THANK YOU.

THIS IS IT!

Today's the BIG DAY!  See you guys in our forum!  I personally cannot wait to meet Kenneth Cobonpue and Jun Palafox.  :)  I hope that by the end of the day, we would all learn a bit more about our speakers and how they were able to make a name for themselves in the fields they belong to.

Rockwell Center

Did you know that Rockwell Center, home to our beloved AGSB, was master planned by none other than one of our guest speakers, Arch. Jun Palafox?  The place conjures a lot of good memories of me with my friends from AGSB.  Strolling within Rockwell grounds is always a pleasurable experience, I guess it is even more so for people who work and live in the area all at the same time.

Never Gonna Leave this Kenneth Cobonpue bed

It's just timely that Maroon 5 had their concert here in Manila last Tuesday.  My officemate couldn't get enough of Adam Levine - she spent several nights sleeping up to 4am texting people to get her tickets and was even willing to go to scalpers on the day of the concert itself.  It was really a stroke of luck for her that one of our colleagues had complimentary tickets -- in short, she was able to watch the concert for free!  And she was just behind the VIP section.

Anyway, I recently found out that one of Maroon 5's more recent videos "Never Gonna Leave this Bed", featured a Kenneth Cobonpue creation.  It's at the start of the video.

Isn't that pure coincidence?  It's great marketing tool to promote the forum. :)  5 more days to go!

Marketing Ideas for Small Businesses

I received an interesting e-mail from About.com about 101 marketing ideas for small businesses.  It's interesting because 1) my family owns a small business, 2)  I am currently thinking of marketing strategies that is within our small business budget, and 3) I can only come up with about 10 ideas.  I placed the link to the article for those who would also like to read it.  The author listed 101 ideas by category and placed hyperlinks to some of the concepts.

Good luck and happy marketing!

Marketing by Consumers

The PLDT myDSL Anna Banana commercial now has a sequel.  What's interesting is it encourages viewers to participate.  The story is Anna Banana publicly rejected Derek.  So now PLDT myDSL is looking for a new Anna.  I remember the discussion we had in class about companies who use a similar strategy.  They ask consumers to help them in creating or marketing their brand or products.  Doritos is one example.  Below is an an ad created by a consumer and shown during the 2007 Superbowl.

Going Glocal Speakers

Our speakers for our marketing forum on September 29 are Jun Palafox and Kenneth Cobonpue.  If you do not know them just search in Google and they'll definitely be there as they are global names.  It's not a lecture, in case you are wondering.  Both will be telling us a story.  A story about their life in the competitive world and how YOU can be like them.

I'll be posting more info about these two and about our upcoming event next time.

Is It Just Branding?

I had a headache yesterday.  A few days ago I decided that I will not take another medicine for headache because I have regular bouts of migraine and I fear for my kidney (although I'm not sure if the medicine will have an effect on it).  However, I decided to take one yesterday even if I only had a slight headache because I had class at night and I wanted to be sure it does not turn severe.  I went down at Buendia and saw a Generics Pharmacy store.  I decided to check it out and maybe buy from them because their ads say that they work as well as their branded counterparts but cost very cheap.  I went inside and asked how much is the Mefenamic Acid.  The sales lady said P2.00!  I must have been shocked because I suddenly blurted out "Does it work like Dolfenal or Ponstan?  It does not have any side effects?"  I hope I did not offend her.  Anyway she said yes and I stammered while telling her how many I wanted to buy.  I was saying units in pieces but in my mind I was thinking of buying one banig.  I finally decided to buy 3 pieces.  This is what they gave me:

Commercials with a BOOM!

Based on the video we saw in class, commerials should have the Boom Factor.  From what I understand, the Boom Factor is that element that makes your commercial stand out or compels viewers or listeners to look and listen to what you have to say.  We are overwhelmed with information which makes deciding where to eat, what to do, what to watch, and what to buy difficult.  As a marketer, you have to make sure that consumers see and hear you.  Advertisements in print or online and commercials in TV or radio should be different from your competitor.  It should go BOOM! so people will take notice.

We watched commercials by Mountain Dew, Coca-cola, and other big brands. I would like to share the Mountain Dew commercial because I had goosebumps when I first saw it and Bohemian Rhapsody is one of my favorite songs.

Thanks to CulturePub.
They/he/she posts interesting advertising-related videos.

MarCom

I took up marketing communications elective this term because the course description mentioned it will help me do better promotion.  And I need help.  Lots of it.

You see, my job requires that I come up with marketing strategies to help our sales representatives in selling.  But my undergrad degree is BS Psychology.  And my previous work was recruitment.  So I need help.  Lots of it.

We've had three meetings so far.  We had report presentations on the various marketing tools like print ads, commercials, websites, blogs, etc.  Very interesting.  I'll share our lessons and my insights in the next posts.
